A cut steel button is a button made of small individually faceted steel studs that are rieted or screwed onto a base plate, designed to reflect light and give a jewl-like appearance.
It was popular from the late 1700 through the mid -1800s.
Originated in England , especially Birmingham.
Often used as a cheaper alternative to diamonds or Jet on coats, waistcoats and dresses.
